Giant Projects in Larnaca — Development Plans 2026-2045

Larnaca is currently experiencing one of the most intense development periods in its history. Here is a comprehensive map of the major projects that are currently shaping the future of the city.

Port and Marina Upgrade — €415 million, led by the Government of Cyprus

A multi-phase plan to upgrade the port and marina, managed by the Cypriot Ports Authority. Initial maintenance upgrades until September 2026, a complete master plan by 2029, and overall deployment by 2045.

"Land of Tomorrow" — Master Plan for the Seafront, designed by Foster + Partners

A separate master plan for Larnaca's seafront, integrated with the port project, which aims to double public access areas to the beach and incorporate ecological "blue-green corridors." A multi-phase project (6 phases) expected to last 12-15 years.

Urban Renewal — 60+ Projects, led by the Larnaca Municipality, €180 million+

A broad urban initiative presented by the President of Cyprus, including the upgrade of the Alekis and Acropolis squares in the city center (in the fourth and final phase as of March 2026), a street renewal program for accessibility (AMEA II) expected to be completed by early 2027, and the renewal of the historic district of Ayios Ioannis.

Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP)

A plan to upgrade over 15 boulevards and main streets, including about 30 km of new bike lanes and approximately 11 km of bus lanes - a significant improvement in accessibility and urban quality of life.

What Does This Mean for the Future?

The multitude of parallel projects, with varying budget scales and from different entities (government, municipality, international architects), signals a broad and multi-sector commitment to regional development - not a single project dependent on one factor. However, each project is subject to its own timelines and possible delays, and actual progress must be monitored, not just announcements.
