Maccabim-Reut — Real Estate for English Speakers
Maccabim-Reut is part of the Modi'in-Maccabim-Reut municipality in central Israel, midway between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv: 30-35 minutes from Jerusalem via Highway 443, 30 minutes from Tel Aviv, with train stations at Modi'in Center and Modi'in East a ten-minute drive away. An estimated 2,000-3,000 English-speaking families live there — American, South African, Australian and British — which makes it one of the five or six largest concentrations of English-speaking Olim in the country.
Four-bedroom apartments typically sell for $460,000-$650,000 and private cottages with gardens $750,000-$1,200,000. The comparison that decides it for most buyers is Jerusalem's Baka at $1.2M-$1.8M: the same Anglo Orthodox lifestyle for 40-55% less. Within the town, Maccabim is older, predominantly dati-leumi and holds the highest Anglo concentration, with quiet streets and private homes; Reut is newer, more mixed religiously, with more mid-rise inventory and slightly lower entry prices.
