Pisgat Ze'ev, Jerusalem — Real Estate for English Speakers
Pisgat Ze'ev is Jerusalem's largest neighborhood and the most affordable place to buy large-family housing inside the city proper. Like Gilo and Har Homa it lies beyond the 1949 armistice line, it appears in every Israeli plan for the city's permanent boundaries, and Israeli law and Israeli mortgage lending treat it exactly as they treat any west Jerusalem neighborhood.
Four-bedroom apartments run $650,000-$850,000. The light rail reaches the Central Bus Station or Mahane Yehuda in 20-25 minutes, and by car the Old City is 20 minutes and Hebrew University 15. The trade-off against south Jerusalem is walkability — central amenities are a light rail ride rather than a walk — and in exchange you get maximum space per shekel. Anglo Olim generally do best in Pisgat Ze'ev East, which balances community density, Highway 1 access and proximity to French Hill's established Anglo infrastructure.
